  • Sheikh will pay for the education of children

The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s divorce from his wife has been costly. He will have to pay 554 million pounds i.e. more than 5500 crore rupees to the ex-wife to settle the battle for the custody of the children. The High Court of London has given this order.

Judge Philip Moore said the large sum of money given to the half-sister of Jordan’s King Abdullah, Princess Haya bint al-Hussein, and the couple’s two children was primarily aimed at ensuring their lifelong safety. The judge also said that in view of the danger on the part of Sheikh on the lives of Princess Haya and her two children, this amount is being given to them.

‘Payment to be made for future security’

Judge Philip Moore said, ‘She is not asking for any money for herself other than security. She is just demanding compensation for the loss she suffered after the breakup of the marriage. The judge directed Sheikh Mohammed to pay Haya a lump sum of £251.5 million for the maintenance of his British mansion within three months.

Haya had demanded this money from Sheikh in the court for the dues of jewelry and horse racing. Their demand was also that this payment should be made to them for future security.

Sheikh will pay for the education and maintenance of children

The court has also ordered Sheikh Mohammed to pay for the education of his two children. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. They have a 14-year-old daughter named Jalila and their 9-year-old son named Zayed. Sheikh has been asked to provide three million pounds for the education of both. Shaikh will also have to pay an outstanding amount of £9.6 million.

The wealthy ruler of Dubai has also been asked to pay £11.2 million a year for the upkeep of children and their protection as adults. Sheikh will have to pay 290 million pounds to his two children under HSBC bank guarantee.

UK’s most expensive divorce ever

According to London’s lawyers, the amount received by Princess Haya is the largest compensation amount ever received in a family dispute case in Britain. However, Haya had sought £1.4 billion in compensation, and the amount she received is less than half that.

‘I want to be free’

During the court proceedings that lasted nearly seven hours, 47-year-old Haya said the lump sum money she received would help her get out of the relationship and eliminate Sheikh’s influence over her children. Haya said in the court, ‘I really want to be free and I want my children to be free too.’

Following the court’s decision, a spokesman for Sheikh said that he had always ensured that his children had access to everything. The spokesperson appealed to the media to respect their privacy.

She also fled to Britain after the news of the affair with the bodyguard

This agreement between the former couple has come after a long legal battle. It started when the princess fled to Britain in April 2019. According to reports, she fell in love with one of her bodyguards, after which she left the country in view of her safety. A month later, he had sought divorce from Sheikh.

The same year a London court ruled that Mohamed had repeatedly threatened and threatened Haya with her life. The court also said that Sheikh had abducted and misbehaved with his two daughters from a second marriage in the past as well.

Sheikh also accused of tapping wife’s phone using Pegasus

Earlier this year, a senior judge, chair of the Family Division in England and Wales, also said that Mohamed ordered the phones of Haya and her lawyers to be hacked using Pegasus spy software. An MP was also among those whose phone tapping was ordered.

However, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has denied all the allegations against him. Haya did not ask for any kind of damages for the divorce. But her lawyers said she deserves billions as the ex-wife of one of the world’s richest men.
