Story Highlights

  • Tension again between Pakistan and Taliban
  • Minister Fawad Chaudhry criticized Taliban
  • Said- Taliban’s old thinking is a threat to Pakistan

Pakistan has criticized the statement of the Taliban government in Afghanistan in which the Taliban had said that women would not be allowed to travel alone. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that the recent conservative steps taken by the Taliban government regarding women are the biggest challenge for Pakistan.

Addressing a program in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, he said, ‘On one side is Afghanistan, where there is Taliban. We want to fully help the people of Afghanistan but the way they are saying that women can’t travel there alone, can’t go to school, can’t go to college… this kind of old thinking, for Pakistan So that’s the danger.

Similarly, Hindu extremist mentality is increasing in India too, he said. So Pakistan’s “biggest” and “most important” fight is against these “two extremist ideas”. Referring to the lynching of a Sri Lankan citizen on December 3 in Sialkot, Pakistan, Fawad Chaudhry said that the whole country united against this incident whereas in India such incidents happen daily and no one cares.

Fawad Chaudhry said that despite successes and failures, Pakistan is South Asia’s biggest hope.

‘Jinnah did not make Pakistan a religious country’

The Information Minister of Pakistan said, Mohammad Ali Jinnah had made Pakistan an Islamic country but he did not make a religious country. He was understanding the politics of India and that is why he made a separate country for the Muslims. There was only one purpose of creating Pakistan, that there should be a place where Muslims are in majority and their rights can be protected. They should not be enemies of the majority of the population.

He said, this illusion must be removed that Quaid-e-Azam Jinnah wanted to create a religious country. He never saw Pakistan as a religious country. Today some people are trying to fool people in their name that the purpose of making Pakistan Islamic was to make it a religious country, which is absolutely wrong. Jinnah was very modern whereas today many people are trying to take Pakistan back in the name of religion. The real challenge for us is how do we get back the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Taliban has implemented a new rule regarding the travel of women

On Sunday, the Taliban government issued instructions that women who want to make long journeys, without close male relatives with them, will not be given space in trains for the journey. Ministry spokesman Sadiq Akif Muhajir told AFP news agency that women traveling longer distances (more than 72 kilometres) would no longer be allowed to travel without a male relative.

Taliban officials have said that vehicle owners have been told not to allow women to sit in their vehicles without wearing a hijab.

Tension between Pakistan and Taliban government regarding the border

Pakistan and the Taliban government are considered to be very good friends, but in recent times there has been a confrontation between the two countries. Recently, Taliban soldiers stopped the Pakistani army from building a security fence on the border between the two countries and overthrew the siege by the Pakistani army.

The boundary between Pakistan and Afghanistan was determined during the British period by the name of Durand Rekha. Afghanistan never recognized it. The dispute started again between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding this border, after which shelling was also seen from Pakistan side. After this controversy, questions have also been raised on the efforts of the Imran government to recognize the Taliban within Pakistan.
