The cases of Omicron, a new variant of the corona virus, are increasing rapidly in the world. In Canada too, the pace of corona has increased. To deal with the new wave of Corona, the government of the Canadian province of Quebec has decided to close retail shops as well. The Quebec government began the first phase of its three-stage process to close retail stores on Sunday.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault announced last week that all shops in the province would be closed for the next three Sundays except pharmacies, grocery stores and gas stations. Charles Milliard, president of the Quebec Federation of Chambers of Commerce, has urged the government to lift these restrictions as soon as possible. This step has been taken at a time when 15,845 new cases of Kovid-19 have been reported in Quebec and 13 more people have died from the infection.

The Health Department said that the number of people admitted to hospitals due to infection has increased from 70 to 1,231. He told that the number of patients admitted in ICU has increased from nine to 162. In addition to Quebec, cases of infection are increasing in other parts of Canada including Bearskin Lake First Nation, Nunavut, and Labrador.

A few days ago, 10,436 people were found infected in Ontaria and 2,944 in British Columbia. Manitoba, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador also set records in new cases of infection. Manitoba reported 947 cases of infection, breaking its one-day-old record when 825 new cases were reported. 2,775 new cases were reported in Alberta while 312 new cases were reported in Newfoundland and Labrador.
