BJP MP from Pilibhit Varun Gandhi on Tuesday claimed that he is the only one who raises the issue of increasing the MSP for sugarcane, while other MPs and MLAs do not have the courage to talk about it. He said that his party colleagues do not raise such issues as they fear that they will not be given an election ticket. Interacting with the villagers, the MP, who came on a two-day visit to the Baheri assembly constituency in Bareilly, said that except him, no other MLA or MP of the ruling party has the courage to raise the issue of increasing the MSP of sugarcane.
BJP will fight UP polls on sugarcane issue and expose Jinnah mentality: Nadda
He said that those leaders are afraid that they will not get (election) tickets. If the people’s representatives do not raise the voice of the people, then who will? I don’t mind if I don’t get election ticket. My mother has won the election as an independent candidate. I will only tell the truth. Governments come and go. Actually, Varun Gandhi’s mother Maneka Gandhi won the 1998 and 1999 Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit as an independent candidate.
Varun Gandhi also said that he is a “revolutionary” leader and cannot see the injustice being done to the people. Whatever he helps people, it is from his own money, whether it is giving sports equipment to youth in villages or giving financial assistance to temples.
Farmers got 95 percent payment of sugarcane price, arrears of less than 5 thousand crores: Government
Meanwhile, in a letter to Pilibhit District Magistrate Pulkit Khare, Varun Gandhi alleged that money is being extorted from traders for the ‘Flute Festival’ to be organized in the district. In his letter, Varun Gandhi has said that putting additional burden on traders, who have already been hit by COVID-19 and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), amounts to atrocities on them.
However, there has been no response from the District Magistrate on this issue so far. On the other hand, the traders allege that the local administration has taken money from them to organize the festival. The BJP MP said that the traders met him in Delhi recently and informed him about the issue. He shared the letter with the media on Tuesday. Varun Gandhi handed over a check of Rs 4.5 lakh to the traders.
