Govt has to take a decision on ban on political rallies we will follow the decision: Congress

The Congress on Sunday said it is up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP government whether the holding of political rallies should be banned amid the spread of Omicron, a new variant of the coronavirus. He also stressed that whatever decision is taken, Congress will abide by it.

Will Congress demand ban on rallies or not? On this question, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the government has to take a decision on this. Surjewala said, ‘Who is in power…BJP. Who is the Prime Minister….Narendra Modi ji. Who is in power in Uttar Pradesh….BJP. With whom is the scientific data available….Modi Govt. In such a situation, who can have information about the threat of Omicron at the ground level….Government.

The Congress spokesperson said that the government has the responsibility and authority to impose restrictions as per the constitution and law. He raised the question that in such a situation how can Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party or Left parties take a decision? Surjewala said that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister will have to take a decision in this regard after knowing all the facts.

In fact, last week, the Allahabad High Court has urged the Prime Minister and the Election Commissioner to postpone the UP Assembly elections for some time in view of the spread of the new variant Omicron in the country and abroad. The court said that to save the people from the third wave of corona in the upcoming assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh, election rallies gathering crowds of political parties should be banned.

The court suggested that political parties should be asked to campaign through TV and newspapers. He also urged the Prime Minister to take strict steps to stop the election meetings and rallies of political parties. It was also said that the Prime Minister should also consider postponing the elections because there is life, there is a world.
