Lohri Recipes: Lohri is a festival of happiness and gaiety. This festival holds great importance for the Sikh community. This year Lohri will be celebrated on January 13. Formerly limited to Punjab, this festival is now being celebrated in many states of North India. There is a tradition of making and eating food items made of sesame on this occasion. Today we are going to tell you how to make Chikki, Revdi and Gajak made from sesame seeds. They can be easily prepared at home by trying simple recipes.
Make Til Chikki like this
Ingredients for making Til Chikki
Sesame – 200 grams
Sugar – 1/2 kg
Baking Soda – 1 tsp
How to make Til Chikki
To make Til Chikki, boil water on medium flame and melt sugar in it. When the sugar dissolves, increase the flame of the gas and let it boil. Now the sugar syrup is ready, then put it in a cup of cold water and check whether its lumps are not being formed. Now take sesame seeds and clean it thoroughly. If you want, you can use standing sesame seeds or if you want, you can grind sesame seeds coarsely. Now put sesame in the syrup and cook it on the gas for about 2 minutes. After that turn off the flame. Now mix baking soda in it. After this, put some ghee in the bottom of a tray or plate and spread this mixture all around. Keep it to dry. In this way your delicious Til Chikki is ready.

Make revdi like this
Ingredients for making Revdi
Roasted Sesame (White) – 1/2 cup
Sugar – 1 cup
Corn syrup – 2 tsp
Lemon juice – 1/2 tsp
Kewra essence – 1/2 tsp
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp

how to make revdi
To make Sesame Rewari, first of all keep a non stick pan on heat and then add sugar and water to the pan and stir. When the water becomes hot, add corn syrup to it. Stir continuously till it thickens. After this, add cardamom powder and lemon juice to the mixture. Add kewra essence to get aroma in the revdi mixture. When the mixture becomes thick, add roasted sesame seeds to it. Mix it well. Now turn off the gas flame. After the sesame mixture cools down, spread it on a baking mat or silicone mat. When the mixture cools down completely, knead it and prepare small circular revdis.

Make Gajak like this
Ingredients for making Gajak
Cleaned white sesame seeds – 200 grams
Jaggery crushed – 300 grams
Dried fruits (cashews, pistachios, almonds)
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Ghee – 3 tbsp
how to make gajak
To make Gajak, first put a wok on medium flame and fry it by adding sesame seeds. After this take out the sesame in a plate. Now put ghee in the pan and put jaggery in it and let it cook on low flame. While the sugar syrup is getting ready, take sesame seeds and grind them coarsely with the help of a mixer. Now take a tray or plate and grease it with ghee on its bottom. When the sugar syrup is ready, add cardamom powder and sesame seeds and mix it well. Now let it cook for some time while stirring it. Now turn off the gas and pour the prepared mixture in the tray and spread it well all around. After this, spread the chopped nuts on top of it. When the mixture becomes a little hard, spread it by rolling it with the help of a rolling pin. After about 10 minutes, cut it into desired shape with the help of a knife. Leave it to settle for about half an hour. Gajak will be set in that time.
