UPSC Success Story: Cleared UPSC exam in 9th attempt, D Bala Nagendran became an IAS officer despite being 100% blind

UPSC Success Story: Bala was smart in studies since childhood. He did his early education from Little Flower Convent and Rama Krishna Mission School in Chennai.

UPSC Success Story: It is said that a person who keeps on moving towards his destination without stopping, he definitely achieves success one day. The story of IAS D Bala Nagendran is also similar.

D Bala Nagendran is 100% blind since birth but he dreamed of joining the civil service since childhood and also fulfilled his dream.

D Bala started preparing for Civil Services in the year 2011 but he did not give up and became IAS in the year 2019 by securing 659th rank in 9th attempt.

In the year 2016, Bala had cleared the UPSC exam in his 5th attempt, but during this time he got 927th rank. Due to not getting the cadre of his choice, he did not join the service and again started preparing. He wanted to become an IAS from the beginning. After this, he failed again in the attempts he gave and finally he cleared the UPSC exam in his 9th attempt.

Bala was smart in studies since childhood. He did his early education from Little Flower Convent and Rama Krishna Mission School in Chennai. After this he did B.Com from Loyla College, Chennai.

Bala’s father is retired from the Indian Army and his mother is a housewife. However, now Bala’s father is working as a taxi driver in Chennai.

Bala says that being blind is a force for him, as his defect has helped him get to know people better. He also says that he failed in UPSC exam many times but he never felt that he should stop his preparation.
