Pongal 2022: Pongal is the major festival of Tamil Nadu lasting four days. People here celebrate this festival as New Year. The festival begins on the first day of the Tamil month ‘Tai’. Indra Dev and Surya are worshiped in this festival. Bollywood actress Hema Malini started the festival with family this year. Hema Malini shared some photos while making kheer in the kitchen. Hema Malini looked gorgeous as ever in a pink and golden sari.

Sun is mainly worshiped during the festival of Pongal. The offerings made to the Sun are called Pagals. On the first day of Pongal, people wake up in the morning and take a bath and wear new clothes and with the help of things like milk, rice, cashew, jaggery, etc., food called Pongal is prepared in a new vessel. Cows and bullocks are also worshiped on this day. Farmers decorate their bullocks by bathing them on this day. On this day, bad things and things present in the house are also burnt and new things are brought home.

The first day of this four-day festival is called ‘Bhogi Pongal’, the second day is called ‘Surya Pongal’, the third day is called ‘Mattu Pongal’ and the fourth day is called ‘Kannam Pongal’. Different traditions and customs are followed every day of Pongal.
