Maruti-Toyota working together on this SUV car, will give competition to vehicles like Creta and Seltos

Auto Desk, New Delhi. Both Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV are working together on a wide range of new models that will be launched in the Indian market as well as the global market. The first combined model manufactured by both the companies will be launched in the next few months. On the other hand, by Diwali 2022, they will jointly launch a new compact SUV, codenamed Toyota D22.

Toyota will also supply this SUV to Maruti Suzuki, which will be re-badged for the domestic market. While codenamed YFG, the new compact SUV will also be launched in the Indian market by the end of 2022. This new SUV will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

Production will be done at Toyota’s Bidadi plant

The new Maruti-Toyota SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Plant 2 at Bidadi. It is claimed to be the same production unit that was used to produce the discontinued Yaris mid-size sedan.

Know when it will be launched –

The testing of the new Toyota-Suzuki SUV has already started. The vehicles have been spotted several times around Maruti Suzuki’s production plant in Gurugram, Haryana. Recent media reports claim that the company may take the wraps off the new SUV around June-July by the middle of 2022. The new Toyota D22 SUV is reportedly to be launched during the festive season i.e. around Diwali. However, the company has not yet made an official announcement about this.

engine –

The new SUV is likely to be offered with two petrol engines. One could be seen with a mild hybrid system and the other with a strong hybrid system. The regular model is likely to get Suzuki’s 1.5L Dualjet K15C petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system. The robust hybrid unit will come with a bigger battery pack and electric motor. This model can only run in EV mode.
